Current Events Experience 2.1

Current Events Experience 2.1

    1) The perk for the council members is VIP tickets and parking passes to one three day weekend to the ACL festival coming up. These passes are for "work purposes" only says the City Park's and Recreation's Board. Rick Cofer and Council Member Don Zimmerman declined the offer because they either have no interest in going to a festival of it's size or with he physical condition of the council man, and Rick Cofer feels as if he is being played by the festival as a way to blindly agree to anything that affects it. Romero says that the passes are for "municipal" purposes, a contradiction of what the PR board said. Kitchen said that the use of Austin’s major park for events much of the year,  and that the free passes wouldn’t sway her to be more on the side of festivals. Personally, I think it's okay that they get their own passes mostly because the majority of the old people won't even show up. The people who do take the passes and actually go probably want to be here as much as anyone else who paid. I don't think the free tickets will affect their decisions as much as people are worried it will because the same people who think that probably didn't elect the ones in the council. Or at least feel as though they are not accurately represented.

   2) Oklahoma put into place a stay all execution solution (haha it rhymes) because of the failure to comply to the newest law put into place to stop states from buying killing drugs from across the ocean. Tennessee is coming up with many new solutions on how to continue killing at a steady rate. Nitrogen gas, different lethal drugs, firing squad, and many other creative solutions. Texas has chosen to use lethal dosage as the weapon of choice. Some states hesitate to use the drug in lethal injections because it has been linked to several difficult executions recently.

  3) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu barred his ministers from going to visit a Mosque, and had police make sure on one from parliament was able to reach the place. He was just trying to put a cap on the out of hand violence. They others reacted just as you would think, they were upset and felt like he was trying to rule like a king.

   4) Svetlana Alexievich won the Nobel Prize for Literature the other day, because of her polyphonic writings and the rarity of her work being non-fiction.The blending of the views on the soviet union through the eyes of the everyday citizen. She looks to he future in a way that she has much left to do.

   5) "Because of the increased risk of the concealed carry law, I decided it is best not to do this anymore,” Professor Emeritus Daniel S. Hamermesh. He resigned because of the concealed weapon law. The reporter found out because of a personal connection. another factor that contributed was the decreased of students at UT.

  1. If memory serves, Tennessee was going to use the electric chair. Utah was going for the firing squad. No one as far as I know was going to bring out an old guillotine.

You left out the last part of the Israel question about the Palestinian killed after he killed two men and injured two others.

No. The Daily Texan acquired his letter to the University. Go DT. He also was planning on retiring and had offers to teach elsewhere.

The big question is missing. :(
