Penguins Concerned with Fate of Fins

Arctic animals grow tired of swimming with the amount of ice left
In past years many animals and people have been displaced by Global Warming, which until pretty recently most people failed to acknowledge. Penguins especially feel the effects, with other animals such as sea lions and polar bears know all too well. Many animals see first hand what human pollution is doing to our precious world.

Starting in 1975, global warming became a harsh reality for our watery friend the penguins when large sheets of ice began to melt, and break of into the water. Even the iconic iceberg that sunk the Titanic melted under the intense rays of sun that stream through the newly torn holes in our ozone. The broken sheets of ice now float in the ocean and melt even faster.

Our animal friends use ice sheets that are attached to one another as there homes. Imagine waking up one day and and stepping outside to be surrounded by open water, not land, or a source of food in sight. Adult animals and penguins can withstand the means to get back to land, but many must leave their newly borns behind, or watch them suffer and die in the water. This is mainly because of the animal cycle to have babies in the spring, which is when the ice melts very fast. While a seal lion can enjoy a free meal, the polar bear pup's mother, does not end up happy.

Ex Governor of Arkansas, Mike Huckabee once said "The most important thing about global warming is this. Whether humans are responsible for the bulk of climate change is going to be left to the scientists, but it's all of our responsibility to leave this planet in better shape for the future generations than we found it." This quote is incredibly true, and it is about time we think of affective ways to stop global warming.

First of all, Global warming is caused by The green house affect, which is the warming that results when the atmosphere traps heat radiating from Earth toward space. Certain gases in the atmosphere block heat from escaping. This affect created tears in the O-zone which is the protective outer layer of Earth's atmosphere. These tears are created by the out put of fossil fuels, and the chemicals chlorine and bromine. According to National Geographic "Such deterioration (of the holes) allows large amounts of ultraviolet B rays to reach Earth, which can cause skin cancer and cataracts in humans and harm animals as well." And Earth needs both of those. (Arguably.)

The people who believe that Global Warming is a myth include everyone's good old friend, Sarah Palin. Palin states that "But while we recognize the occurrence of these natural, cyclical environmental trends, we can't say with assurance that man's activities cause weather changes." Science says otherwise. Climate reacts to whatever forces it to change at the time and right now, humans are now the dominant forcing. Sorry Sarah, you lose again.

Ways to help put an end to Global warming are as simple are having your kids carpool, turning off your computer when you leave your house, and even turning off a light. These are all extremely simple things to do to not only stop global arming from increasing, but to also help your wallet out with the electricity bill. With solutions as simple as these, it would seem to be really easy to stop the continuation of destroying of animals homes, and even causing huge floods and changes in the water currents. That affects thing in the same species of us.

As time goes on it is our job as parents and as brothers and sisters to make sure that the future is always better, but maybe not in this case brighter. Turn off your lights and enjoy the outside a little more. The arctic animals thank you.

Current Event 3.2

   1. The house of Representatives passed a rule that forces extreme monitoring of the refugees from Syria. The FBI will make sure the people coming into the US, "do not pose a threat" to national security. Everyone has their panties in a bunch because they think the US is so weak, that we need that type of monitoring. That's why its so popular, because we are afraid. The White House has promised to veto the bill after Thanksgiving because it is unnecessary, the refugees are not terrorists. They are REFUGEES. Obama knows where it's at because he thinks it's pointless. Just imagine another country even considering of putting a foreign policy if the US went into a time of crisis that Syria is in. Yes that's right, it's a CRISIS.

   2. The Austin City Council voted Thursday to ease regulations for building garage apartments, and to keeping cheap homes available for people in the newly rising expensive community. And another reason is of course it could be another way to earn income. Ates spoke out about how keeping these homes is the only way he can afford to live in the neighborhood. And Pio said that the houses let  him be able to live in his forever home, thanks to the backyard tenant.

   3. The Board member of my area is Leslie Pool.

   4. Now ya'll meat eater can enjoy the first genetically modified animal on your dinner tables. Enjoy. The fish is fine says the FDA, but also I mean they allow Twinkies, and we all know how that turns out. The other argument really does make good points about how we shouldn't be eating genetically modified food, because it isn't really good for anyone's bodies. This decision took so long  because it is really dangerous to put these chemicals into a persons body, and it takes forever to make sure it's safe enough to be sold.

   4.1 Soy beans are good.

   5. District 6 proposed the idea that Austin should be open to the refugees just like they were open to the victims of Katrina and the Border Kids. 1,225 refugees came here in 2013, and more need to come. The Texas administrator don't have the right to refuse so many wanting to help people in need.

   6. Raphael Holiday was convicted of setting a fire that killed his 18-month old daughter and two half sisters fifteen years ago. TExas has put capital punishment in place 13 other times,  the other 49 other states have only killed about six other people using the death penalty. The appeal wouldn't of helped because it really would've been useless.

   7. Like Floating on air, okay not neccicarily and editorial perhaps but really this is so cool and I think it should really be something we write about more often. Taking art and creating a reader to creator experience is really interesting, and I think we should see more of that in our newspaper.

The Craft of Writing Column

Alfre Dwayne Brown is convicted of murdering a veteran police officer, and a woman who had just giving birth. They were murdered during an armed robbery between three other men, possibly including Brown.
Throughout the trial Brown stayed silent as he listened to the lawyers throw is life around. He finally spoke up, explaining that he was not guilty of this crime. He was quickly silenced, and assigned to death row.
The closing argument was that new information confirming what Brown said was brought to the table. A judge agreed to a new trial, but nothing has happened past then. The trial is at a stand still, with Brown still on death row.
This article was published many years after the original event in 2003, which is pretty funny because it lets the reader see how long Brown has spent in jail, with an open trial.
Brown's alibi was that he called from his girlfriend home to another workplace, and after many years of searching the phone record was found in a garage.
His alibi was unconfirmed for so long that when the piece of paper was found, they can dismiss it pretty easily.
The spring trial ended with opening up the case, but it has gotten zero traction. The judge said okay, but since this man has waited this long on DEATH ROW, he can wait a little longer.
I think she is right because reopening a case takes so much. Tracking everyone down again, and many other processes. I think that the prosecutors are trying to sweep this under the metaphorical rug.
The appeals court seemed to be exhausted with the concept of this case, and are just trying to close it permanently.
To get the ball rolling. To start the trial her in Austin, because Brown can still be innocent.
I think this story can only end badly for brown because even if he gets out, he is labeled as a criminal from death row, and he has spent probably the most productive years of his adult life sitting silently in a cell awaiting a fate he cannot control.
This article is really upsetting. I think that it was supposed to provoke a reaction, but I don't think it will provoke anything. Things like this trial happen so much to people of color, and at this point, the type of people who read this newspaper, are probably tired of this kind of injustice, Because that is what it is, Injustice.

The Craft of Writing Editorials

Kingsbury's strategy here is to give a very relatable beginning and allow the reader to be included in the broad opening of this article. The lead is kind of a joking imagination piece that once you start reading you can imagine for yourself the dishwasher, maybe even one you have actually seen. The lead serves as a total gateway into the readers mind as a way to start thinking in the same direction as the author.

The related trends are laws being passed to regulate and to make sure dish workers, or anyone who does a low class job, are getting paid what is due for them.

The dismissed idea is that making the wages higher would make the job numbers even lower. She easily dismisses it by whipping out statistics.

If you raise the wages, it will greatly impact the income inequality.

Hours are rough and depend on tips alone to make minimum wage. ad that's only for the people who are allowed to take tips.

Adjusting some policies, the nation could sharply benefit with he raised number f middle class citizens. Consumers can question the treatment of the people working in the place of food. It's an uncomfortable question, but more and more people need to be asking it.

Tipped minimum wage is when a person only makes minimum wage when are tipped an average every hour. That is totally a loop hole in the system, but it was made by the system in the firt place.

Tips fuel the workers and if they work harder and longer, they will get paid more. It's an instant money in there pocket deal which tricks the server into thinking they are getting paid more.

It's really just cheating the servers. and it's also hurting the buisness.

A lot of lower class workers are immigrants and don't speak enough English to know that they have rights.

The personal recount of that man is that it actually makes this all real. That it isn't just a number, it's real people who are just trying to provide for their real families.

Restaurant routinely violate the law by not regulating the laws of minimum wage.

About 15 people every payday at every restaurant, are victims of wag theft.

Bringing attention to the people who are stolen from everyday. Bring the people and the families that are affected by the theft.

I think that the conclusion is really good, but it didn't end like an editorial should. I think if I were to re write, I could come up witha better more well rounded ending.

Current Event quiz 3.1

   1) The abortion law put in place by a Republican Legislature, ad the public will know if it is going to be repealed or not on Monday. Doctors say that it should be changed from only giving abortions in surgical centers, and should be changed to nearby hospitals. The Male Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton disagrees with the appeal to move the abortions, because the old law was to "hep improve the care of the women" seeking an abortion.

   2) The charges may be dropped because a federal judge expanded a century-old legal principle to provide broad protections to more law enforcement officers. The judge ruled Oct. 29 that legal precedent from 125 years ago in a ruling originally written to protect circuit-riding federal agents giving murderers who work for the city, a chance to skip out on jail. The Supremacy Clause has been interpreted to exempt federal officers from prosecution under state laws so long as they are acting within the scope of their federal duties. This interpretation of the Clause is as far reaching as affecting the deaths in September 2014, only four months after Kleinert was charged in Jackson’s death, three local police officers assigned to the same federal violent crime task force shot and killed another man.

   3) Washington Uni had their players take lessons in learning basic Mandarin, which to be honest, won't help them as much as Washington thinks it will. Mandarin is NOT a language anyone one speaks in China, because the language is a blended version of many different Mandarin and Cantonese BASED languages. This is historic because it is a perfect place to get people excited for the NBA and this will be the first regular-season intercollegiate game featuring U.S. based teams ever played in China. Smart is really concerned with the amount of school the teammates will be missing because of the academic record of the entire team. I think that is a really great ting a coach should be worried about with such a team.

   4) What made history in Yangon, Myanmar, was millions of citizens in the election that will test whether the military’s everlasting grip on power can be loosened, with opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi’s party expected to secure an easy victory. It was a remarkable historic day, full of life and excitement.

   5) The theft inside of the Vatican that had resulted in the loss financial papers, and the new books talking about the "mismanagement and greed inside the Vatican", but the Pope is still in favor of the people, and will prevail! Hurray for Popedizzle Frandizzle!

   6) In depth Answer:
Sanctuary Cities are a false term used to describe a city in which immigrants can claim citizenship sanctuary. Most of the opinions are in-favor of abolishing the false term of "sanctuary cities", because it gives minorities a false sense of actual sanctuary when really they will be scrutinized and kicked out quickly. The Author presents true statements connecting the now in power Governor to scrutinizing the Latino community while also claiming to be able to relate. The cartoon shows the opinion of a 'sanctuary city" not actually giving what sanctuary is. I think the comic is an accurate representation to show how both ideas, either apposing or conforming, can see that "sanctuary" is the wrong word being used.

6.0)  I think the variation of the editorial page is actually a really good idea for this story. His story in particular, because of the facts about the Governor. We still voted for this guy and now are dealing with the repercussions. I think it just gives information that the new voters didn't know and now they can think again about reelecting him.

Bringing Home the Metaphorical Bacon

   1) On Monday, The World Health Organization concluded that eating processed meat like hot dogs, ham, and bacon raises the risk of colon cancer. (No sh*t)

   2) The response was that we shouldn't scare people into not eating red meat because of the new found risk, but that people should just be more aware of what they are putting into their bodies. Doctors said that it really isn't supposed to scare anyone, it's just a reminder that what you put into your body effects your health.

   3) The panel found sufficient evidence that processed meat causes higher risk of cancer. The chairman still reiterates that eating processed meats still has a risk versus smoking or drinking. This wasn't a scare tactic, it was just new information.

   4) This cartoon is a perfect example of the ways this information WILL be perceived. The small man is telling the at man who is shoveling meat into his mouth. The way this information will be taken is that the skinny people who eat red meat will now be paranoid until the next time they get to eat bacon.

   5)  PETA and the Pro-Vegan, will have a field day and will make a whole bunch of new pamphlets. The fat man will not care about he new meat discovery because it''s not like cancer could ever effect him. Having Obesity and High Cholesterol run in my family, and being the only vegetarian, I think it's hilarious that the people who are most effected by this new discovery most likely won't care.

Story (please don't put this in the paper. The student I interviewed specififcally does not want to be found)

New Policy Protecting Trans students put in Place At McCallum

In the recent comings of the ever growing transgender high school support community, the new policy was no shock to students. The new policy states that “The District prohibits acts of any kind, including harassment, based on race, color, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, or any other basis prohibited by law (e.g., cyberbullying via social network sites). Retaliation against anyone involved in the complaint process is a violation of District policy and is prohibited,” which now protects transgender students and allows them to possibly explain a bullying situation to a teacher or counselor we they feel attacked by their gender identity.

A student who will remain anonymous spoke out about what they thought of the new policy. " I think it's about time that we are protected under the same rules and regulations cisgender people (denoting or relating to a person whose self-identity conforms with the gender that corresponds to their biological sex) are covered under. I think especially at Mac, since we have such an amazing LGBTQA Support group known as Spectrum, that the policy is no surprise in it's contents but more of a surprise that we were not covered by a policy in the past." anon said.

In a poll of ten transgender students at McCallum, seven out of the eight said they had been discriminated against because of their gender identity. Three of those seven said that it had happened by a teacher, not just a student. Transgender students at McCallum say that everyday is a new experience. Junior Ezra Ferrel told of how each day brought something new to their eyes. “Coming (to school) everyday to a place that I don’t know is safe or not for me is pretty hard. People don’t realize how scary  it can be when you aren’t even comfortable in your own skin and then you have to go somewhere that makes you feel even worse and crushes you ideals of changing.” said Ferrel. Continuing, Ferrel tells about how coming to this place that makes them feel so bad, also really helped them become who they are now. “Coming here made me not care about what others think. It’s my gender (identity) and mine alone. McCallum also gave the opportunity for Spectrum to grow and that helps pretty much everyone, not just the LGBTQA.” The new policy gives hope for even more pro LGBTQA policies to be pasted and Spectrum clubs meets every Wednesday to think of new ideas to help the McCallum community.

If you or a student you know is the target of discrimination or harassment based on race, color, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, or any other basis prohibited by law, be it by a teacher a fellow student, administrator, or another AISD employee, please find a counselor or another trusted adult to talk about the situation so that they can help you and let the right people know. Look around for posters that give the number for Campus Crime Stoppers.

When it's common knowledge, on record and available, background info

2.   Why can't the general rule by applied without exception?
Then we would never be able to find out more

In attribution tags, long quotes use different style by putting it in a different graph

5.       How many speakers may be quoted in a single paragraph?  Why?
Just one. Because it's more work

6.   Why should reporter avoid transitional phrases that begin with the phrase "When asked..."?
You don't want to have the reporter in the story at all

during a long quote

8.       When should attribution appear at the end of a sentence or paragraph?
In a short quote

Draft for Story pt1

I have not finished the interviews writing them down becasue of a technical difficulty
here is what i have now

This policy addresses discrimination, harassment, and retaliation involving District students.

The District prohibits acts of any kind, including harassment, based on race, color, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, or any other basis prohibited by law (e.g., cyberbullying via social network sites). Retaliation against anyone involved in the new policy.

During citizens communication, board members heard support for the decision from a student as well as representatives from local nonprofit Out Youth, which provides services to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender youth in Austin and Central Texas.

Transgender youth have reported harassment, discrimination and physical attacks, said Keisha Martinez, Out Youth’s clinical services director.

Creating a gender-inclusive space is accomplished by using appropriate gender pronouns and providing access to services in accordance with individuals’ authentic identity versus their designated gender at birth and Policy changes are imperative

Current event Quiz 2.2 (a day late I might add)

   1) The two possible causes for the fires were an overheating Shredder and also a farm accident. The burn ban may have been violated. At 10:30 am, officials let displaced home owners return to the crime scene. The estimated cost of damages was "hundreds of millions" of dollars worth. After reading the interviews, it impacted the story by adding an emotional appeal fort he reader. After reading the part about the guy's wife dying two weeks earlier and him losing everyhting, it made me actually more concerned for the story.

   2) Schools have begun to use online textbooks for Math and social studies. The Robertson family was having trouble accessing the "cyberhomework" and so they spent 75 dollars on a paper textbook. The teacher expressed little concern with the so called "user-unfriendly" online textbooks. She said hat is a really easy way to show more content to the students. It costs a lot to get the devices for students who can't access them all the time. Much more than say... 75 dollars for a paper textbook. I guess this affects me at McCallum, but I've been using devices as an alternative to textbooks for many years that it's probably more strange to actually have a real textbook. I kinda like it more just because I can make myself think that if it's on a device hat it's been updated more recently than a textbook, whether that's true or not is a different discussion but..

   3) First of all, Canada is really awesome. You should really seriously think about going there. It's just really... wow.  CANADA'S BACK BABY! LEGALISM!!! WOOHOOO! (kinda funny but while I was in Canada over the summer, I saw a lot of campaigns for the legalization of mary-jane and a lot of the other things that are being pushed through now) Canada is going to surprise the world with just how cool and liberal they can be. The U.S. relationship will change because of the withdraw of Canada in the bombing of the Islamic states.

   4) First of all, Eastside will NEVER be a "cool hip place to go". I bet my life on that. That school should of been closed. The band director, Alan Guckian, is nominated for a grammy-ish award. He is in the 25 finalists, and he was picked because of the biographies students and families wrote about him. He said he would throw a pizza party for all the kids, "and it won't be mr. Gattis'" This director knows where its at in pizza town.

   5) The new coach is trying to stop the finger pointing and build up the confidence of the individual players before just trying to build up a team that doesn't trust themselves. I really like the way this coach thinks. That's the kind of coach that makes an okay team, into a watch out team.

Current Events Experience 2.1

Current Events Experience 2.1

    1) The perk for the council members is VIP tickets and parking passes to one three day weekend to the ACL festival coming up. These passes are for "work purposes" only says the City Park's and Recreation's Board. Rick Cofer and Council Member Don Zimmerman declined the offer because they either have no interest in going to a festival of it's size or with he physical condition of the council man, and Rick Cofer feels as if he is being played by the festival as a way to blindly agree to anything that affects it. Romero says that the passes are for "municipal" purposes, a contradiction of what the PR board said. Kitchen said that the use of Austin’s major park for events much of the year,  and that the free passes wouldn’t sway her to be more on the side of festivals. Personally, I think it's okay that they get their own passes mostly because the majority of the old people won't even show up. The people who do take the passes and actually go probably want to be here as much as anyone else who paid. I don't think the free tickets will affect their decisions as much as people are worried it will because the same people who think that probably didn't elect the ones in the council. Or at least feel as though they are not accurately represented.

   2) Oklahoma put into place a stay all execution solution (haha it rhymes) because of the failure to comply to the newest law put into place to stop states from buying killing drugs from across the ocean. Tennessee is coming up with many new solutions on how to continue killing at a steady rate. Nitrogen gas, different lethal drugs, firing squad, and many other creative solutions. Texas has chosen to use lethal dosage as the weapon of choice. Some states hesitate to use the drug in lethal injections because it has been linked to several difficult executions recently.

  3) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu barred his ministers from going to visit a Mosque, and had police make sure on one from parliament was able to reach the place. He was just trying to put a cap on the out of hand violence. They others reacted just as you would think, they were upset and felt like he was trying to rule like a king.

   4) Svetlana Alexievich won the Nobel Prize for Literature the other day, because of her polyphonic writings and the rarity of her work being non-fiction.The blending of the views on the soviet union through the eyes of the everyday citizen. She looks to he future in a way that she has much left to do.

   5) "Because of the increased risk of the concealed carry law, I decided it is best not to do this anymore,” Professor Emeritus Daniel S. Hamermesh. He resigned because of the concealed weapon law. The reporter found out because of a personal connection. another factor that contributed was the decreased of students at UT.

Observation Piece LONG VERSION

The room was dim as I entered it. The bright outside light reflected off on the linoleum floor and shone into the room making the movie on the screen become lighter. Mr. Rodgers turned and tried to make eye contact with me as I slowly entered the room. I slunk in tot he room sitting on the ground next to three roller chairs with red carpet like upholstery.  The movie not he screen was Thumb Wars, a parody of Star Wars, but only acted out by thumbs.
The annoying voices coming from the screen were easy to drown out and soon became white noise. The slight chitter chatter of the other student s became more apparent. The light illuminating front their phone screens made it obvious as to who was really watching the movie and who was just completely off task. I stood up again because the boy I was sitting under reeked of Axe Tropical. A little goes a long way and sitting new tho him was making it hard to breathe.
I walked from my seat at computer 3 all the way down the aisle trying to avoid crossing over the screen. I turned left after the row ended and walked into almost complete darkness. I know the layout of the back office. go straight and open the door to the control room. Take a left after the largest computer and go in to the storage cage room. I decided to go slightly to the left and then go down the corridor to a new door. I couldn't see anything but I reached forward and opened the usually locked back door. The room I walked into was dark and I hit my head on a low hanging ceiling and crouched to move under it. The automatic light flickered on. The inside room had a small stage and a huge sound room with sound proof walls. On top of the sound room, I could see guitar cases and next to the amp sitting on the ground, was a black Stradler guitar. In the corner was a keyboard connected to another amp and inside of the sound room there was a full drum kit. I sat in the room for the remainder of my observation period and strummed the guitar, trying to find the cords to play 'Come as You Are'. The room was quiet and caming allowing me to just relax and stop hearing the sounds of the school. The coolness on the room and the comfortableness of the chair I was sitting in put me into a lull, almost putting me to sleep.

Observation

I went into Mr. Rodgers Av productions to observe for 15 minutes the class. They class had a substitute. As I sat  there in the dark watching the movie Rain Man, I noticed many things. The kids sitting in the red office chairs, sitting on the floor and sitting on the ground didn't really seem to be watching the movie. It smelt like bad popcorn because some of the kids were eating microwavable popcorn. The silence of the class allowed me to get lost in the pan flute of the soundtrack. I stood up from the scratchy carpet because it was bothering my legs. I walked towards the back room where Mr. Rodgers keeps the piano and guitar. I started to play the guitar even though I don't know how. It was pretty fun and the guitar was really easy to just strum. I climbed around in the back room before I found a ripstick and rode down the center aisle of the class.

Quiz 1.3

   1)  Pope Fran-Dizzle was invited by congress, made a speech addressing Global Warming and the effects it has on everyone.  It was a historic moment because it is the first time a pope has every addressed a joint meeting in congress.

   2)  Many see that the players who attacked the referee after he made a racist comment were completely justified. The Teenagers will return to school after 75 days in an alternative learning center. The assistant coach resigned. Moreno is frustrated because none of the people in questions showed up to the hearing, including Watts.

   3)  Angry parents gathered outside of Maplewood elementary  to protest and ask the school to rehire a teacher in the 6th grade. The School system is trying to keep the "leveling" at a controllable rate, and it's hurting the brightest students at Maplewood because it is forcing them to stay in remedial classes.  The Brykerwoods rally ended with the school rehiring the teacher that would of been sent away, so this is a goal that could possibly be reached with the protest.

   4)  A senator asked about the new gun law that will be put into place Jan 1, of 2016. He asked about holstered guns on school property. He sees the law a something that won't really change anything.  It was just a question so it won't really matter for a few more months, and by then, who knows what the world will be like.

   5)  A 27 year old women under the influence of alcohol hits three girls leaving 16 year old Ekia, in a vegetable state. She pleads guilty after a false accusation to mirandize the officer. I think its pretty disgusting that she would even try to pus false information onto the officers who caught her after she pretty much ruined a girls life.

   6)  Obituaries include day of death, birth, marriage, greatest accomplishments, and remaining family.  Since most of that information is on public record, it isn't that hard to find and or right an obituary.  I guess something that would be a unique quality was like the largest accomplishment or perhaps a peaceful quote. I would probably try really hard to underline the best of the person without immortalizing them.

Current Events Quiz 1.2

   1)  Yesterday's presidential debate was formatted to help longshot candidates in a few different ways. By asking opening questions about Trump, it allowed the other candidates to show their amount of commitment to the role rather than Trump who "... isn't serious".  A new obstacle arises with the Trump based questions because that seems to be the only name voters can remember. Even with the other candidates bashing Trump, it is just making him sound more radical. Not necessarily a bad thing, a radical person draws much more attention than you might realize.

   2)  The director of the CIA was at UT yesterday for the release of documents the late J.F.K and Lyndon B. Johnson were given as daily briefs in the 1960's. Brennan said the drive to unveil the records stemmed from the White House and marked a shift toward a new level of openness in government. The public can access these records later in the year through the government libraries. They are willing to share as much information as long as it doesn't effect national security. The President's Daily Brief (PDB) gave the president an insight to what was going on in his country and in the world. It also shows foreign policies and reminds the president of his responsibilities.

   3)  Refugees are facing new problems when trying to move into the open arms of neighboring countries. The biggest problem now is walking across a border that is littered with land mines. Refugees are even considering using this route only because of the recent use of tear gas and water cannons the Hungarians used on them when they were trying to cross the razor wire barrier.

   4)  The 14 year old Ahmed Mohamed was arrested and detained for bringing a homemade clock to his engineering clock. The school said that the reaction would of been the same to anyone else who brought the clock t school, no matter their religion. Half a million people tweeted #IStand-WithAhmed and even President Obama himself invited Ahmed to the White house. Since Ahmed is Muslim, some people are worried that because of the "anti muslim" law that was passed last year has affected the school and the way they view people who look muslim. (Whatever that means)

   5)  I first learned about this story just now, but I don't think I am a very good example of an average teenager. I don't have a twitter, and Twitter seems to be the social media site that was most affected by this incident. I think that social media gives just as much of a biased as the print version of the newspaper. with websites like Buzzfeed, which is a viral information sort of thing, gives a lot of interesting information. It usually gives a pro gay, feminist, pro trans, pro anti white male cisgender biased. Which is great! But it gives the biased as much as the newspaper is pro cisgender. I don't think that is really a problem because of the amount of people who can look elsewhere for opinions you don't gree with or agree with more.

Current Events Quiz #1

1)    The graduate students were convicted of hate crimes against a gay man such as attempted kidnapping and sexual assault. Both men were sent to jail for 5-6 years and then put on parole. The University can't divulge anything about the hiring process because it is a conflict of interest. I think that probably someone at UT knew about the situation with the men, but probably not the people in the hiring process. They were not employees of UT, so they most likely did not have to go through all of the same background information tests that the teachers go through for other positions at the college.

2)   The deal that was made on Tuesday in Baltimore resulted in the family of Freddie Gray to be awarded 5.4 million dollars due t the unjust death of Gray. He suffered from a spinal injury when placed in a criminal transportation vehicle and six officer are awaiting trial. Baltimore's Mayor, Stephanie Rawlings-Blake supported the passing saying it was"... in the best interest of the city... this should not affect the innocence of the officers in question..."

3)   Vice Chancellor Sig-mar Gabriel announces that Germany will take half a million refugees for "several years' do to the conflict in their home countries. He was criticized for announcing this because of the large amount to refugees Germany agreed to take. Gabriel rebutted that it would be better if other countries such as The United Kingdom took some refugees as well. Germany is spending 6.7 billion dollars on the crisis because  it is saving millions of people lives. They are hopefully leading the rest of Europe to a more supportive of the refugees.

 4)   DONALD TRUMP was invited by Ted Cruz to attend a rally against the passing of the proposed nuclear agreement with Iran. Cruz is unlike the other candidates because he brought another more popular republican running mate to a night all about him. Donald Trump was not one of the normal type of people Cruz would of invited because of the amount of controversy he brings along with him, but Cruz was able to harness Trumps publicity and bring attention to himself and the rally.

5)   Hilary Clinton apologized for using another private data base after declining an apology in relation to the issue the week prior.  The men in the congress are thinking about possibly using immunity and having Clinton be forced to resign her fifth amendment right and have to speak or the situation. Co mingling is to blend the parties. This is the second time Hilary Clinton has been so slow to apologize for the exact same situation, private emailing.

Research Scenario PART 1 By Fran Wethington
Other sources to obtain information and insight into the situation of a biology teacher teaching creationism to students other than interviewing would be to use CAR. Using the basic tools around you that are current is easiest. In this particular situation, using a book wouldn’t be a good accurate choice because of the delay between currencies. Using a reliable Internet source would keep the story fresh and new while also giving the better and more detailed information the book would. I would be looking for a whole bunch of similar stories and resolutions because I assure you this has happened more than once.
EVALUATION

The way the information is presented in the first couple of paragraphs is extremely sloppy. It begins as if you have already heard about this situation somewhere else and are just looking for more information. That information should be available, but it should be organized so that someone who already knows the story can skip or just skim through the beginning paragraph and jump right in giving the new reader a chance to catch up. Other than that, the story seems well thought about and also well complied. The way he author obtained information allows the reader to comprehend the basic information that all scenarios like this seem to either contain or release.
