Penguins Concerned with Fate of Fins
The people who believe that Global Warming is a myth include everyone's good old friend, Sarah Palin. Palin states that "But while we recognize the occurrence of these natural, cyclical environmental trends, we can't say with assurance that man's activities cause weather changes." Science says otherwise. Climate reacts to whatever forces it to change at the time and right now, humans are now the dominant forcing. Sorry Sarah, you lose again.
Ways to help put an end to Global warming are as simple are having your kids carpool, turning off your computer when you leave your house, and even turning off a light. These are all extremely simple things to do to not only stop global arming from increasing, but to also help your wallet out with the electricity bill. With solutions as simple as these, it would seem to be really easy to stop the continuation of destroying of animals homes, and even causing huge floods and changes in the water currents. That affects thing in the same species of us.
As time goes on it is our job as parents and as brothers and sisters to make sure that the future is always better, but maybe not in this case brighter. Turn off your lights and enjoy the outside a little more. The arctic animals thank you.

Arctic animals grow tired of swimming with the amount of ice left
In past years many animals and people have been displaced by Global Warming, which until pretty recently most people failed to acknowledge. Penguins especially feel the effects, with other animals such as sea lions and polar bears know all too well. Many animals see first hand what human pollution is doing to our precious world.
Starting in 1975, global warming became a harsh reality for our watery friend the penguins when large sheets of ice began to melt, and break of into the water. Even the iconic iceberg that sunk the Titanic melted under the intense rays of sun that stream through the newly torn holes in our ozone. The broken sheets of ice now float in the ocean and melt even faster.
Our animal friends use ice sheets that are attached to one another as there homes. Imagine waking up one day and and stepping outside to be surrounded by open water, not land, or a source of food in sight. Adult animals and penguins can withstand the means to get back to land, but many must leave their newly borns behind, or watch them suffer and die in the water. This is mainly because of the animal cycle to have babies in the spring, which is when the ice melts very fast. While a seal lion can enjoy a free meal, the polar bear pup's mother, does not end up happy.
Ex Governor of Arkansas, Mike Huckabee once said "The most important thing about global warming is this. Whether humans are responsible for the bulk of climate change is going to be left to the scientists, but it's all of our responsibility to leave this planet in better shape for the future generations than we found it." This quote is incredibly true, and it is about time we think of affective ways to stop global warming.
First of all, Global warming is caused by The green house affect, which is the warming that results when the atmosphere traps heat radiating from Earth toward space. Certain gases in the atmosphere block heat from escaping. This affect created tears in the O-zone which is the protective outer layer of Earth's atmosphere. These tears are created by the out put of fossil fuels, and the chemicals chlorine and bromine. According to National Geographic "Such deterioration (of the holes) allows large amounts of ultraviolet B rays to reach Earth, which can cause skin cancer and cataracts in humans and harm animals as well." And Earth needs both of those. (Arguably.)

Current Event 3.2
1. The house of Representatives passed a rule that forces extreme monitoring of the refugees from Syria. The FBI will make sure the people coming into the US, "do not pose a threat" to national security. Everyone has their panties in a bunch because they think the US is so weak, that we need that type of monitoring. That's why its so popular, because we are afraid. The White House has promised to veto the bill after Thanksgiving because it is unnecessary, the refugees are not terrorists. They are REFUGEES. Obama knows where it's at because he thinks it's pointless. Just imagine another country even considering of putting a foreign policy if the US went into a time of crisis that Syria is in. Yes that's right, it's a CRISIS.
2. The Austin City Council voted Thursday to ease regulations for building garage apartments, and to keeping cheap homes available for people in the newly rising expensive community. And another reason is of course it could be another way to earn income. Ates spoke out about how keeping these homes is the only way he can afford to live in the neighborhood. And Pio said that the houses let him be able to live in his forever home, thanks to the backyard tenant.
3. The Board member of my area is Leslie Pool.
4. Now ya'll meat eater can enjoy the first genetically modified animal on your dinner tables. Enjoy. The fish is fine says the FDA, but also I mean they allow Twinkies, and we all know how that turns out. The other argument really does make good points about how we shouldn't be eating genetically modified food, because it isn't really good for anyone's bodies. This decision took so long because it is really dangerous to put these chemicals into a persons body, and it takes forever to make sure it's safe enough to be sold.

5. District 6 proposed the idea that Austin should be open to the refugees just like they were open to the victims of Katrina and the Border Kids. 1,225 refugees came here in 2013, and more need to come. The Texas administrator don't have the right to refuse so many wanting to help people in need.
6. Raphael Holiday was convicted of setting a fire that killed his 18-month old daughter and two half sisters fifteen years ago. TExas has put capital punishment in place 13 other times, the other 49 other states have only killed about six other people using the death penalty. The appeal wouldn't of helped because it really would've been useless.
7. Like Floating on air, okay not neccicarily and editorial perhaps but really this is so cool and I think it should really be something we write about more often. Taking art and creating a reader to creator experience is really interesting, and I think we should see more of that in our newspaper.

The Craft of Writing Column
Alfre Dwayne Brown is convicted of murdering a veteran police officer, and a woman who had just giving birth. They were murdered during an armed robbery between three other men, possibly including Brown.
Throughout the trial Brown stayed silent as he listened to the lawyers throw is life around. He finally spoke up, explaining that he was not guilty of this crime. He was quickly silenced, and assigned to death row.
The closing argument was that new information confirming what Brown said was brought to the table. A judge agreed to a new trial, but nothing has happened past then. The trial is at a stand still, with Brown still on death row.
This article was published many years after the original event in 2003, which is pretty funny because it lets the reader see how long Brown has spent in jail, with an open trial.
Brown's alibi was that he called from his girlfriend home to another workplace, and after many years of searching the phone record was found in a garage.
His alibi was unconfirmed for so long that when the piece of paper was found, they can dismiss it pretty easily.
The spring trial ended with opening up the case, but it has gotten zero traction. The judge said okay, but since this man has waited this long on DEATH ROW, he can wait a little longer.
I think she is right because reopening a case takes so much. Tracking everyone down again, and many other processes. I think that the prosecutors are trying to sweep this under the metaphorical rug.
The appeals court seemed to be exhausted with the concept of this case, and are just trying to close it permanently.
To get the ball rolling. To start the trial her in Austin, because Brown can still be innocent.
I think this story can only end badly for brown because even if he gets out, he is labeled as a criminal from death row, and he has spent probably the most productive years of his adult life sitting silently in a cell awaiting a fate he cannot control.

Things like this trial happen so much to people of color, and at this point, the type of people who read this newspaper, are probably tired of this kind of injustice, Because that is what it is, Injustice.

The Craft of Writing Editorials
Kingsbury's strategy here is to give a very relatable beginning and allow the reader to be included in the broad opening of this article. The lead is kind of a joking imagination piece that once you start reading you can imagine for yourself the dishwasher, maybe even one you have actually seen. The lead serves as a total gateway into the readers mind as a way to start thinking in the same direction as the author.
The related trends are laws being passed to regulate and to make sure dish workers, or anyone who does a low class job, are getting paid what is due for them.
The dismissed idea is that making the wages higher would make the job numbers even lower. She easily dismisses it by whipping out statistics.
If you raise the wages, it will greatly impact the income inequality.
Hours are rough and depend on tips alone to make minimum wage. ad that's only for the people who are allowed to take tips.
Adjusting some policies, the nation could sharply benefit with he raised number f middle class citizens. Consumers can question the treatment of the people working in the place of food. It's an uncomfortable question, but more and more people need to be asking it.
Tipped minimum wage is when a person only makes minimum wage when are tipped an average every hour. That is totally a loop hole in the system, but it was made by the system in the firt place.
Tips fuel the workers and if they work harder and longer, they will get paid more. It's an instant money in there pocket deal which tricks the server into thinking they are getting paid more.
It's really just cheating the servers. and it's also hurting the buisness.
A lot of lower class workers are immigrants and don't speak enough English to know that they have rights.
The personal recount of that man is that it actually makes this all real. That it isn't just a number, it's real people who are just trying to provide for their real families.
Restaurant routinely violate the law by not regulating the laws of minimum wage.
About 15 people every payday at every restaurant, are victims of wag theft.
Bringing attention to the people who are stolen from everyday. Bring the people and the families that are affected by the theft.

Smart is really concerned with the amount of school the teammates will be missing because of the academic record of the entire team. I think that is a really great ting a coach should be worried about with such a team.
4) What made history in Yangon, Myanmar, was millions of citizens in the election that will test whether the military’s everlasting grip on power can be loosened, with opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi’s party expected to secure an easy victory. It was a remarkable historic day, full of life and excitement.
5) The theft inside of the Vatican that had resulted in the loss financial papers, and the new books talking about the "mismanagement and greed inside the Vatican", but the Pope is still in favor of the people, and will prevail! Hurray for Popedizzle Frandizzle!

Most of the opinions are in-favor of abolishing the false term of "sanctuary cities", because it gives minorities a false sense of actual sanctuary when really they will be scrutinized and kicked out quickly. The Author presents true statements connecting the now in power Governor to scrutinizing the Latino community while also claiming to be able to relate. The cartoon shows the opinion of a 'sanctuary city" not actually giving what sanctuary is. I think the comic is an accurate representation to show how both ideas, either apposing or conforming, can see that "sanctuary" is the wrong word being used.

Bringing Home the Metaphorical Bacon
1) On Monday, The World Health Organization concluded that eating processed meat like hot dogs, ham, and bacon raises the risk of colon cancer. (No sh*t)
2) The response was that we shouldn't scare people into not eating red meat because of the new found risk, but that people should just be more aware of what they are putting into their bodies. Doctors said that it really isn't supposed to scare anyone, it's just a reminder that what you put into your body effects your health.
3) The panel found sufficient evidence that processed meat causes higher risk of cancer. The chairman still reiterates that eating processed meats still has a risk versus smoking or drinking. This wasn't a scare tactic, it was just new information.
4) This cartoon is a perfect example of the ways this information WILL be perceived. The small man is telling the at man who is shoveling meat into his mouth. The way this information will be taken is that the skinny people who eat red meat will now be paranoid until the next time they get to eat bacon.
5) PETA and the Pro-Vegan, will have a field day and will make a whole bunch of new pamphlets. The fat man will not care about he new meat discovery because it''s not like cancer could ever effect him. Having Obesity and High Cholesterol run in my family, and being the only vegetarian, I think it's hilarious that the people who are most effected by this new discovery most likely won't care.
