Current Events Quiz #1

1)    The graduate students were convicted of hate crimes against a gay man such as attempted kidnapping and sexual assault. Both men were sent to jail for 5-6 years and then put on parole. The University can't divulge anything about the hiring process because it is a conflict of interest. I think that probably someone at UT knew about the situation with the men, but probably not the people in the hiring process. They were not employees of UT, so they most likely did not have to go through all of the same background information tests that the teachers go through for other positions at the college.

2)   The deal that was made on Tuesday in Baltimore resulted in the family of Freddie Gray to be awarded 5.4 million dollars due t the unjust death of Gray. He suffered from a spinal injury when placed in a criminal transportation vehicle and six officer are awaiting trial. Baltimore's Mayor, Stephanie Rawlings-Blake supported the passing saying it was"... in the best interest of the city... this should not affect the innocence of the officers in question..."

3)   Vice Chancellor Sig-mar Gabriel announces that Germany will take half a million refugees for "several years' do to the conflict in their home countries. He was criticized for announcing this because of the large amount to refugees Germany agreed to take. Gabriel rebutted that it would be better if other countries such as The United Kingdom took some refugees as well. Germany is spending 6.7 billion dollars on the crisis because  it is saving millions of people lives. They are hopefully leading the rest of Europe to a more supportive of the refugees.

 4)   DONALD TRUMP was invited by Ted Cruz to attend a rally against the passing of the proposed nuclear agreement with Iran. Cruz is unlike the other candidates because he brought another more popular republican running mate to a night all about him. Donald Trump was not one of the normal type of people Cruz would of invited because of the amount of controversy he brings along with him, but Cruz was able to harness Trumps publicity and bring attention to himself and the rally.

5)   Hilary Clinton apologized for using another private data base after declining an apology in relation to the issue the week prior.  The men in the congress are thinking about possibly using immunity and having Clinton be forced to resign her fifth amendment right and have to speak or the situation. Co mingling is to blend the parties. This is the second time Hilary Clinton has been so slow to apologize for the exact same situation, private emailing.

  1. It's not a conflict of interest for UT. It's confidentiality laws. Not the same thing.
The criminal case is still ongoing in Baltimore. And it was $6.4 million not $5.4 million.
Folks are criticizing Germany because they feel their open policy will encourage more people to become refugees.
Cruz can't criticize Trump because Trump is an outsider and that's how Cruz sees himself.
Clinton was also slow to admit she made a mistake about the Iraq war.
You are missing the last question and the free response essay. BOO!!!
